The Mallee Navigator Program commenced in September 2016 as a pilot program in partnership with, Northern Mallee LLEN, Murray Mallee LLEN, Mildura Rural City Council and Red Cliffs Secondary College for delivery across the Mallee region (Mildura Rural City Council, Swan Hill Rural City Council, Gannawarra Shire and Buloke Shire) in August 2016.
The aim of the Navigator Program is to re-engage young people between the ages of 12 and 17 who have less than 30% attendance at school back into education or training. Through intensive wrap around case management support, schools refer students to the DET Area Navigator Coordinator. Eligible young people are then referred to NMLLEN/ MRCC and MMLLEN for intake and intensive case management. The Mallee Navigator program has received over 400 referrals since its commencement.
The Navigator Providers Northern Mallee LLEN, Murray Mallee LLEN and their partners collaborate with senior managers and specialist staff at the Department of Education and Training’s Mallee Area Office who refer young people to the Navigator program. They also work closely with 25 secondary schools (Government, Catholic and Independent) across the Mallee region.
From 2024, Mallee Accommodation Support Program (MASP) will be the lead Mallee Navigator service provider delivering services in the Northern Mallee region and Mallee Family Care will deliver services in the Southern Mallee region
Please note that from 2024, all Navigator referrals for Northern Mallee Region must be made to Children, Youth & Families – MASP
